By direction of the Church Council, in
the fall of 2011 a committee was appointed by Past President, James Kuhlmann, and charged to study the feasibility
of meeting a request from Zion Lutheran School's Board of Education.
This request included the creation of four new classrooms, one new bathroom
and locker room area. The Board further suggested that the school
would greatly benefit from the construction of new school offices, teacher
work room, music rehearsal hall, new Gymnasium, additional bathrooms, and to
air condition and update the existing classroom.
The Zion Feasibility Committee, chaired
by Wally Huber, is comprised of the names on the right. The
established committee was charged to study the issues and to present their
findings to the congregation for consideration. In their
study, the committee:
-
Explored various options for meeting the
request of the Board of Education.
-
Surveyed both congregation and school
families.
-
Examined the enrollment potential of Zion
Lutheran School based on recent census data of area zip codes.
-
Conducted tuition comparisons of Zion
Lutheran School with comparable private schools in Northeast Dallas.
-
Defined additional benefits to Zion
Lutheran Church that would be available through expansion.
-
Conceptualized an expansion plan that
would meet the needs of the growing church and school.
-
Estimated probable costs of each portion
of the conceptualized expansion.
-
Developed a debt servicing plan to fund
the expansion project.
At the Congregational Meeting on May 20,
2012, Wally Huber and the committee reported their findings to those in
attendance. The
PowerPoint presentation from this report is available here.
In June of 2012, the committee gathered
and answered questions from the congregation members. As a result of
the feedback, the committee assembled a Frequently Asked Questions document
that provides further details about the envisioned expansion. The
Frequently Asked Questions document is available in hard copy in the Narthex
or available online
by clicking here.
The links on the right provide access to
the PowerPoint presentation to the congregation, the conceptual plans for
expansion, and the Frequently Asked Questions document prepared by the
committee. These documents above attempt to answer the member's
questions about the study and communicate all the information that the
committee has compiled so that we can make a decision in September.
This is a very large commitment in consideration and the committee feels
that all questions need to be answered. Continued information and
updates about this project will continue to be
added to this page as it becomes available.
