Children's Choirs at Zion |
|
|
Many musical opportunities are
set up in order to assist children in their musical progression throughout the
years in Zion’s elementary and middle school departments.
Each student in Kindergarten through third grade is taught in a general
music class by his or her teacher. The
Minister of Music, Sam Eatherton, teaches the music classes for grades 3 through
8. In addition to the general music
class, every student in Kindergarten through grade 8 participates in a choir.
In the 2005-2006 school year, Kindergarten through Grade 2 form one
choir, Grades 3, 4, and 5 comprise another, and Grades 6, 7, and 8 make up the
advanced choir in the school. As students advance to each new choir level, they become better music readers, and their performance schedule becomes busier. Beginning in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Choir students learn to sing in two and three parts, with these skills improved and built upon in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade choir. The older choirs not only sing in the church but in the community as well, at nursing homes, hospitals, and malls. Their Christian message is spread through the gift of song.
